15 July 2007 - Apollo’s Dragon Boat Team managed to stay afloat in all three of their races at the annual Rotary Clubs of Northampton Dragon Boat Challenge at Midsummer Meadow.  Despite a lack of waterborne training the team managed to paddle together in time and raise over a thousand pounds for the Teenage Cancer Trust and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

The team was captained by Dennis Johnson of Axminster Carpets who commented that “This was a remarkable feat for us as none of us has a rhythmic bone in our bodies.  But the causes were good ones so we put in as much effort as we could and we saw our time improve by a full ten seconds between the first and third races.  We couldn’t have done it without the support of Borneo Hughes Martell Solicitors and we are very grateful to them.”

The team was ably supported by other members of Northampton’s newest Rotary Club who kept both the barbecue and the information tent manned throughout the day.  The Club aims to attract families by meeting on Saturday mornings and providing a free crèche and this event allowed them to spread the word among Northampton’s families.
